This past Wednesday, I embarked on a new adventure with the love of my life, and I didn’t even have to leave Metro Detroit. Being the wonderful girlfriend that I am, I took him out on the Infinity Ovation Yacht http://summercruiseseries.com/home.html for the Rat Pack event, as a nice gesture, to celebrate his 36th birthday, in a very special way.
The sun was starting to set as we arrived at the Jefferson Beach Marina. My heart warmed as I glanced at Marco’s gleaming eyes; his excitements too much to hide. “This is fun!” he said to me as we boarded the ship. “Permission to come aboard?” he asked the captain. “Permission granted,” the captain replied with a grin. This was all too cool for me too, boarding a cruise ship that was about to tour Lake St. Clair. It’s not every day you get to explore Michigan’s waters on a gigantic boat with a bunch of strangers.
Once we got on the boat we were directed almost immediately to a buffet of finger foods. A rainbow of fruits danced across a wide array of imported, expensive cheeses that sat on top of a full selection of flavored crackers. On the other side they had eggplant parmesan and Tuscan style chicken. Immediately, my hands started grabbing. You see, food to a pregnant woman is like jewels for a pirate, and I was definitely Black Beard.
Marco and I stacked our plates high excitedly, then glanced around for a place to retreat. Panic started to sink in. There was nowhere to sit. “Quick!” I stammered. “Go to the upper deck. We need to get a seat before everyone else!” Hurriedly, we jotted up the stairs where low and behold there was a circular patio table and 4 chairs.
Elated that we weren’t those people that had to stand restlessly to enjoy their feast, Marco and I quickly sat down and lovingly ate our small plated dinner. It was exquisite! The cheeses were buttery, soft, and fruity. The crackers crisp and flavorful. The chicken and eggplant parmesan, to die for! It was so good, I sent Marco down three more times to load up on the goods.
When he would leave, I’d feel the glaring eyes of the surrounding strangers, wishing, hoping, that I would leave for a split second so they could take our table. But I didn’t. We didn’t. In fact, if either of us wanted anything, Marco would get it and come back swiftly. We pretty much stayed there comfortably together, the whole night.
The weather was perfect. The wind playful, fresh and light. Luck Be a Lady was playing in the background. Even though there were people everywhere, I felt like it was just Marco and I. We giggled, joked, kissed, and held hands while the city passed behind us. We watched the sunset and the sailboats on the horizon as the perfect day turned into the perfect night. I fell in love with him all over again.
After Marco had made a couple of trips to the open bar, and I was a bad mother who sipped down a glass of red wine, we were finally ready to venture off and leave our guarded table to the vultures. We danced to the DJ’s disco songs on the top deck for a little bit like Travolta. Then headed down stairs to the bottom deck to see and hear the splashing waters.
We then headed into the parlor of the lower deck. Little did we know there was a three pieced band singing Rat Pack tunes! Grabbing my hand vigorously, the man of my dreams pulled me out on the empty dance floor in front of everyone. He pulled me close to him and whispered in my ear, “I’m so in love with you. Thank you for my birthday present. You are my everything.” I melted. And it was at that moment, I knew that he and I were meant to be together forever. And that he, I and Baby G were going to live happily ever after.

Our night ended as we docked back at the Jefferson Marina. We took a small stroll over a bridge by the water then we headed home. I didn’t care that the boat didn’t head down to Detroit or that the seating arrangements were super annoying. All I cared about was that I was with Marco, and we were starting a family together. I smiled. Kissed him again and wished that instead of Wednesday, it was an endless summer night.
